Evaluation Question 3

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

We collected audience feedback by asking people to answer questions but in their own words, just like a conversation conclusion. Even though we didn't use web 2.0 or specified questionnaires I think this worked really well as it meant people had to think about the question and what they were going to say before answering it. This is different to online surveys or paper questionnaires as some people might not be acknowledging the question correctly or answering it truthfully as they feel the need to rush it.

Here you can view both of the audience feedbacks that we did in our pre- production. This audience feedback is about their own music interests and music videos and this audience feedback is about how they interpret the song we chose to do.

Both of these audience feedbacks helped us a lot as we got a basic view of what people's interests are in the music industry and how people interpret songs without even seeing the video to it. It helped us create a storyline that we could create effectively with the locations and limitations that we had and also one that matched perfectly with the song.

We also uploaded the music video via YouTube to our Facebook page. We could then see comments, 'likes' and also how many page views we retrieved.. We didn't receive any constructive feedback from using these websites however just 'likes' so I had to ask people who had viewed the video via YouTube but didn't have no way of posting a comment.



Here are some comments on our video:-

The video is very fun to watch and the story went along with the song. There is a good use of shots with the two different dresses. I wish there was more humour within the video as this would have added to the upbeatness of the song. Overall it's a really good music video.

I loved the bit where the boy walks in with the balloon to the beats, that looked really effective and was a good use of fast shots. I think you over used the close up a bit as there wasn't as much facial expressions going on as in the other shots. I really liked the fast jumping near the end of the two green and red shots.

I think the story goes really well with the song and it is easy to understand. It was clearly shown as well with the rehearsal scenes and putting up posters and learning lines. It all linked really well and it looked effective. The studio shots of the girl by herself singing look really good but I prefer the ones of her in the dresses rather than the close up as it's a bit too much when it jumps from a far away shot to a full faced one.


Through the process of making the video we also asked members of the class and friends to give their comments on the music video. This made it a on going development. Some of the feedback that we had was:-

'You need to make your editing quicker'

'The narrative shots need to flow a bit better to make more sense'

'To open the video you need to use a shot that is closer to the camera as we can't really see the first line properly from the mid shot'

We took all these comments in to consideration while we developed our video so that it would actually fit what the audience wants. This then made it more appealing to the eye and understandable- especially with the comment about the narrative.

Evaluation Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?


I think that the combination of our main product and ancillary tasks are effective but don't completely match due to the music video being quite bubbly and bright and the ancillaries being more serious and dark. This however is common in the media industry and I feel that you can still tell that the products are all linked due to the type of font, colours and imagery used.

I would say that the music video links with the album front and back cover as it has a white studio background that is used throughout the video and also one of the props- the heart balloon. The artist is also smiling in a recognisable costume which gives the whole album a happy and 'feel good' feel to it. The inside pages link to the video as of the costume and shots used. The black and white brick wall is not used in our music video but this is common convention in most album inserts as they like to show the artist in a different setting/location as an individual person.

The whole package including the music video also has a strong red, black and white theme running through it. We chose red as it is a bright colour that connotes love, one of the main theme's in our song. This however is not a strong feature of the album poster which I would say least links to the music video. It does although have the same image as one in the album pack with a recognisable outfit on. This is the only characteristic that links the poster to the music video.

We also convey our artist to be quirky, independent and non-sexual due to how the indie pop genre is. The images and shots we use in the package are simple but convey the artist to be very strong as an individual. This is different to artists such as Rihanna in the R&B genre as they are conveyed to be sexual in both videos and imagery. Rihanna is also made to seem like she needs men to be happy where as our artist of the indie pop genre is the total opposite. This then gives a good representation of the girls/young women who like the indie pop genre as it makes women seem independent, non sexual and that they don't need boys/men to make them happy. Costumes also add to this image as the outfits we use aren't revealing or sexual in any way. They simply make our artist to look like a 'girly girl' and still very youthful.
